People Assistant
Cardiff City Centre | Hybrid – 3 days office / 2 days WFH
Salary - Up to £32,000 per annum
Permanent | Monday – Friday 37.5 hours per week
We're looking for an organised, proactive and confident People Assistant to join a fast-growing organisation in Cardiff.
Although the title is People Assistant, this is a hands-on role with genuine exposure to employee relations. You'll support with absence, investigations, probation, conduct and other day-to-day HR matters, working closely with People Partners and managers across the business.
This is a busy, commercially focused environment, so we're looking for someone who is ready to get stuck in, learn quickly and take ownership of their development.
What we're looking for:
- Previous experience in an HR Assistant / Junior Advisor role.
- CIPD Level 3 qualified, working towards it or equivalent HR experience.
- Good working knowledge of UK employment law and HR processes.
- Experience supporting employee relations, ideally including absence, investigations, probation or conduct.
- Strong organisation skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Confident communicator who can build good relationships with managers and colleagues.
- Experience using HR systems and Microsoft Office.
- Good judgement and confidence knowing when to escalate.
- Proactive approach with a genuine interest in developing your HR career.
- Someone who takes notes, asks questions and learns quickly rather than waiting to be told what to do.
The role:
You'll provide day-to-day HR support across the employee lifecycle, acting as a first point of contact for routine People queries.
You'll support People Partners and managers with:
- Absence reviews and attendance matters.
- Investigations and employee relations casework.
- Probation, conduct, capability, grievance and disciplinary processes.
- Flexible working requests.
- Meeting preparation, documentation and accurate note-taking.
- Contracts, variations, starters, leavers and other HR administration.
- Maintaining accurate employee records and HR systems.
- Recruitment and onboarding activity.
- HR reporting and data quality.
- Wider People projects and process improvements.
You'll also have the opportunity to sit in on more complex casework and learn from the wider People Team.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to move beyond traditional HR administration and build genuine experience across HR and employee relations.
There will be support from the team, but this isn't a role where you'll be taught HR from scratch. You'll need to be curious, take ownership, get involved and be willing to learn on the job.
The role offers:
- Up to £32,000
- Hybrid working – 3 days Cardiff office / 2 days WFH
- Occasional, limited travel
- Fast-growing business with around 450–500 employees
- Supportive People Team
- Genuine exposure to employee relations
- Opportunity to develop your HR career
